COMPETITION JACKET CARE
Care guides for your riding clothes.
If you're a keen equestrian, you know how important a good riding jacket is for your comfort and safety. However, to prolong the life of your riding jacket, it's important to maintain it regularly. In this article, we'll give you some tips on how to care for your riding jacket.
How to care for your riding jacket
For your riding jacket, a wash when it really needs it is all you need.
Steps to clean a riding jacket:
The first step in caring for your riding jacket is to clean it regularly. Don't hesitate to shake your jacket regularly to remove as much dust and hair as possible. Here are the steps to follow
A. Cleaning by hand
Remove dust: Use a soft brush to remove dust and dirt from your jacket. If your jacket has leather parts, use a brush specially designed for cleaning leather parts.
Prepare the cleaner: Use a mild cleaner to clean your jacket. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or those containing bleach, as these can damage the fabric or leather parts.
Apply the cleaner: Apply the cleaner to a soft cloth and gently rub your riding jacket. For small stains, clean directly on the surface by hand. Avoid rubbing too hard to avoid damaging the fabric or leather.
Rinse: Use a damp cloth to rinse the jacket and remove any cleaner residue. Be sure to remove all cleaner to prevent damage to fabric or leather.
Dry: Air-dry your riding jacket and avoid machine-drying. Let it air dry. After hand-washing, never dry your riding jacket in direct sunlight or on a radiator, as this could damage the fibers and lead to shrinkage or deformation. Avoid machine drying. Instead, air-dry in a cool, well-ventilated place. This will ensure even drying and extend the life of your jacket.
B. Machine cleaning
Regular cleaning of your show jacket is essential to maintain its shine. Before washing, always consult the specific care instructions provided by the manufacturer.
If you wish to clean your riding jacket in the washing machine:
close all buttons, Velcro fasteners and zips.
Use a delicate cycle at a maximum temperature of 30°C on the reverse side,
using a mild or organic detergent
no fabric softener,
bleach,
or detergent.
Avoid using fabric softener, as it can clog fibers and reduce breathability.
Care tip: Use a mesh wash bag
To preserve the shape and fit of your show jacket, use a mesh wash bag during the wash cycle. This will prevent excessive rubbing with other garments and protect any buttons or delicate details on your jacket.
How do I dry a machine-washed riding jacket?
After machine-washing your riding jacket, let it air-dry. Avoid putting it in the tumble-dryer, as this can damage the materials. If you want to speed up the drying process, you can hang it outside, in the shade and out of direct sunlight. For drying, hanging in the open air on a wide hanger is recommended to limit marking.
Iron on reverse side only if necessary.
With these simple but effective tips, you'll be able to look after your show jackets like a true professional. Don't forget that taking care of your favorite riding clothes contributes to their longevity and your comfort during equestrian competitions. So put these tips into practice and shine in the field with show jackets that are always impeccable!
